Up to the Challenge

I'm laying this all at the feet of Carrie Jones. Especially if I end up typing this from the Emergency Room...

Today was the start of the Push Up Challenge. Kidlit Kim actually got the ball rolling. Carrie added some momentum and recruited 18 more of us to join in. The goal is to do 100 consecutive push ups in six weeks.

I guess part of my motivation is the fact that it's June and the thought of putting on a swimsuit makes me want to curl up under the covers until Halloween. I'm much more of a winter person. I like seasons where jeans, sweaters and jackets are encouraged, things that cover my body rather than reveal it.

So the Push Up Challenge seemed like a good idea. Until I started doing the push ups this morning and heard every joint in my upper body creaking, popping and groaning for me to stop. Then the dog came to lick my face and decided to lay on my back, giving me an additional 9 pounds to lift. (Thank God he's a little dog!!)

I made it through day one and we only have to do it every other day. My goals are small: don't have a heart attack, don't give up. And in six weeks, who knows. I'll either be laying on the floor waiting for someone to discover my corpse, or I'll be sending Carrie a box of chocolates to celebrate our beautiful bathing suit bodies!

Wish me luck! Better yet, join in the misery :)

Ha! It's all my fault, huh? And you're going to send me a box of chocolates after we're buff?

MEAN!

xoxox

You can do this.

Oh my! Count me OUT. But good for you for giving it a try!

Then again, this sort of thing gets you wondering...what COULD I accomplish if I really put my mind to it.

Oh, you didn't say how many you did on your first day!

Carrie - Don't worry. I'll send the sugar free kind and you'll be able to burn off all the calories with just one set of push ups!

Rebecca - Love your new photo! Although I can see how the two heads would make it hard to participate :)
I only managed 20 on my initial test. Today I had to crank out 45, though not all at once.

Alright. You piqued my (wimpy) interest. I'm going to go and check it out!

Wow! 100 in 6 weeks sounds lofty, but then again, I've never done it. The most I've done is 20 and I thought that was good.

Good luck! You go girl!

Wow! 100 pushups in a row!?! I actually started to do pushups every day to tone my arms. I started at four (yes, four), I'm up to six! :) My goal is to do 15 a day! Yipes! My goal is closer to 100 per week!

Ummm...are we talking girly push ups? I'm guessing no.

100 in a row is an AMAZING goal! If you get their you must post a picture of your fabulously toned arms.

Carrie - With Richard Simmons as your hero, I KNOW you can do it too!

Christy - I thought I rocked doing 20! Ha!

Kelly - Secretly, if I can do 50 without passing out or bursting anything, I'll be thrilled :)

Lisa and Laura - As long as I don't have to be in a bathing suit, I'll be happy to show off my arms!

Um. I can send you cookies when you reach that goal!

I went to a gym today and took a class called Zumba.

I think my face was the reddest one of all.

Why does this word verification read Palin?

I have been tempted to join in this challenge, but can't even imagine being able to do 100 pushups in a row. I'll watch from afar and cheer you on. Go, go, go!

I looked at the link--hmm. Can't deal with it this week--brain too fried. I promise to look again next week.

I believe it can happen--I did a couch-to-5k program a few years ago, and it totally worked.

Good luck!

100 in a ROW? Hell no. I tried to do the 30 Day Shred from Jillian Michaels and nearly broke my nose from all of the arm flailing and jumping jacks.

Me and exercise don't mix. Sadly.

Oh my, I love it!! And, that picture ... it made me laugh out loud! Good luck with the push-ups!! I'll try too ... I usually do 20-40 at a time, so it'll be a good challenge!

I made the mistake of arm wrestling you once, Sherrie, back in 7th grade. You kicked my butt! I've never done more than 50, and that was a rare event, let me tell you.

I'd love to join your challenge, but you see I've got this shoulder injury, ooo! there it goes again.

Beth - Mmmmm... Cookies... Zumba sounds fun. I did not know she was verifying my comments. Hmmm...

Kim - Thanks for the impetus!

Vivian - Tempting as it sounds, I can't believe you won't join in :)

Becky - Couch to 5K?? That sounds even harder!

Maureen - With a title like 30 Day Shred, I'd keep my distance!

Kelly H-Y - You're way ahead of me if you can do 40 at once. I'm more closely resembling that bathing beauty in the cartoon :)

PJ - I'd be happy with 60. That's impressive enough!

John - I didn't realize I was so rough on you back then. The shoulder injury still persists, huh? :)

Okay, well, I'm in. I did my test (oh, boy!) and my 1st set today. I'm seriously doubting 100, but, heck, even 25 would be impressive compared to today!

And you guys got me inspired. I pulled up the couch to 5K program & son and I are going to do it together. He says. :) It should be easier this time around, but I've let things slip this year, so it seems time to do it again. I thank you. And Carrie. :)

Yeah, Becky! That's awesome! And lucky you to have your son for an exercise partner! You are going to be so FIT by the end of summer :)

Holy cow!

I...

I can't even do one.

*Weak*

All of you are awesome.

: )

Corey Schwartz said...

Ha! I'm with Casey. I don't think I could even do one.

Good for you, Sherrie.
