Ready for the New Year

My in-laws left this morning after a two-week visit. The house is in shambles, nothing is where it should be and I feel so out of sync. But not for long.

Thankfully, my writing class starts in a few days and I'm really looking forward to deadlines and writing on a regular basis again. I had a deadline over the holidays for a local magazine. That was tough. I was so not in the writing zone. I've been wrapping, eating, singing, partying, cooking, baking, playing...everything but writing! I'm looking forward to just being back to normal.

Our family has a New Year's Day tradition of going to the beach. We live about 25 minutes from the ocean and we've only had rain on New Year's Day once. Somehow looking out across the ocean and breathing in the sea air brings such a sense of being alive, of being able to accomplish anything in the new year. I love that the beach is practically deserted. We feel like we own it, like we've discovered this secret that only we can share.

I'm not one for making resolutions, but childish as it sounds, I do believe in the power of wishes. My goal for this coming year is to dream big, reach for the stars, and do everything in my power to see my wishes become reality.

It's the start of a new year, the beach is calling, and anything is possible...

Aw, we don't get to the beach that often here in NJ, but my husband and I met for the first time on a beach in Miami, and he brought me back there to propose :)

I am jealous about a beach trip on New Year's Day!

Wishing you a wonderful 2009!

I haven't done much writing myself in the last few weeks! I'm going to make a few good goals for 2009 and stick to it. Happy New Year! Enjoy your family day at the beach!

Trying to finish this first draft tomorrow. My week of writing has become a week of dealing with heater repairmen. Lessons in writing no matter what is going on around me.

I'm not much of a beach girl, though I love the ocean waves. I'm a bit on the ghostly white side and the sun and I don't really get along well enough to spend a long time in each other's company.

Happy New Year!

Wow, Corey -- that is so romantic!

Vivian,if it makes you feel any better, we're jealous of your snow!

Kelly, I'm glad I'm not the only one shirking on my writing this time of year!

Sarah, I sympathize with the heater repairman. We've had the guy out here twice this month! And BTW, now is the time to go to the beach -- the sun's further away so you'll have less chance of sun damage :)

I can certainly agree with you on the beach comment. I sure do miss the beach. Living in a landlocked state is hard on me...

I hope you can back into writing soon! Sounds like you have a great wish to reach for those stars. I'm doing the same.

Did you get my email about Monarch? I will be letting you know when those chapters are ready. Thank you so much for offering your help. I appreciate it a lot! Let me know if I can return the favor. ;)

Lady Glamis, we lived in Arizona for 7 years. Besides being tired of the heat, we really missed the ocean. I will never live land locked again!

PJ, glad you liked the post.

Happy New Year to you all!!
