Beautiful Blogger

I've been bad about passing on blogging awards, so I'm trying to rectify that by following up on this one that I received on Monday from Tabitha Olson. Thank you, Tabitha! (And if you don't follow her blog Writer Musings, you should! She writes great book reviews AND has some awesome giveaways!)

When she gave me the award, Tabitha listed seven pet peeves, so here are mine:

  1. Finding the word "perched" in every single book I read. It's become a game for the kids when I read to them. And oddly enough, we find it every single time. Perching is for birds, not people, not houses and it's not a creative use of the word when it's in every book.
  2. People who complain about the weather. If it rains, their plans are ruined. If it's sunny, they miss the rain. I mean seriously, we live in Southern California. It doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy what comes. It's all good. And complaining won't change it anyway.
  3. Misspelled words in advertising and product names. I downloaded a multiplication game for my daughter called Timez Attack. I'm sorry, but just because we're concentrating on multiplications doesn't mean you can spell the title wrong. It doesn't make the game more fun. It just undermines a different part of her education. Ugh.
  4. Tourists. Maybe because I live in a tourist town, but it really drives me crazy when they stand in the middle of the street to take a picture of a windmill. Hello! Trying to get somewhere without killing anyone but you're making it difficult!
  5. Laundry.
  6. Socks. Especially when they never make it into the laundry basket.
  7. Buying a book for myself. And then finding another copy buried under the stack by my nightstand. Although that sometimes turns into a sweet giveaway on the blog :)
I'm passing this award on to seven other beautiful bloggers, in no particular order:
Laura Pauling
Kristan Hoffman
Lori Walker
Anne Gallagher
Bish Denham
Angela Felsted
Lenny Lee

And the winner of Michael Spradlin's The Youngest Templar: KEEPER OF THE GRAIL is:

Congratulations, Kelly! Send me your snail mail and I'll get this book out to you asap.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

I now feel like I should go back through all of my writing and find/replace the word perch :). I do like the word, though. I agree about the misspelled words. Putting a z instead of an s is no longer fun or edgy, it's just LAME.

Aww, thank you! And LOL to your #7.

Hmm... my pet peeves:

1. Riley barking at nothing/everything in the backyard. He's really loud and startling. But cute, so I end up forgiving him.

2. Bad drivers. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE.

3. People being rude/disrespectful to people who are just trying to do their jobs (like teachers, police, post office employees, waiters, etc.).

4. How Andy never puts anything back in its place, lol. But that's obviously not a deal-breaker, since we've been together for over 5 yrs now.

5. Writers hating on the publishing industry.

6. How all the papers in a desk organizer tend to fall forward. Can't they design something to hold them upright in place?? (I jury-rigged some binder clips to do the job, but I shouldn't have to.)

7. Gatorade bottles that cut your hands when you try to open them. I mean seriously!

Congrats on your award and congrats to Kelly! :o) I loved reading your pet peeves--I live in a tourist town and grew up in one as well and I agree--the tourists who stop in the middle of the road to take a picture drive me crazy.

Have a great weekend, Sherrie! I'm just back to blogging and had to stop by because I've missed you!

Hugs,
Jackee

Um...I think I have the word perched in my book. Off to delete! *grins*

Great choices to pass your award to. Congrats to you all. :-)

Great list. :D Congrats on the award and to the awardees.
As for a little peeve that hit me reading a book I otherwise ADORE, the author used "gained purchase" a number of times. That term used once in YA or kidlit is a lot. More than once and out of story I fly. Voice may be the trickiest thing to hold on to when writing from a teen or child perspective.

thanks so much Sherrie! I try my hardest to ignore the pet peeves in my life. I've used perched, I'm sure. I think it's funny when writers use bile the wrong way. :)

Wow! Thanks, Sherrie!!!
Misspelled words do make me groan. Not necessarily the ones to make it look "cute" but when there are true misspelled words in ads or even facebook posts!

I especially hate it when socks are perched precariously on the edge of the laundry basket. :)

LOL, your pet peeves are quite amusing. Although sadly, I think I probably contribute to some of those. "Perched" being one of them, and also being a tourist in your town. I'd like to say, however, that I did not stand in the middle of the street (srsly, why?). I complain about the weather, but usually only when it's cold and rainy (and the latter mostly because I hate driving in it. SoCal drivers cannot DEAL with rain -__-).

Have a great weekend!

Thanks for the award Sherrie! (Rats I was so close to getting the book)
I'm with you on people who complain about the weather. How dull would it be if it was always THE SAME? And tourist? don't even get me started.

Congrats, Kelly, and congrats to the blog award winners! :)

I hope you have a great weekend!

Thanks Sherrie. Had no idea. Congrats to you.

Thanks, Sherrie!

I live in a tourist town, too (chicago), so I feel you're pain. But, at least, the tourists here are obvious. They either wear Bears or Cubs paraphernalia, so I can see them coming from a long way off and plan my route accordingly. :)

Ok, so how weird is it that I like doing laundry? I mean, I don't love it! It takes a lot of time, but it's immensely satisfying.

Also, I will now be on the lookout for perched. Did you, by any chance, find it in my ms when you read it? :P
