The Ever Growing TBR Pile

Things may have gotten a little out of control here.

The lamp doesn't fit anymore and I end up knocking piles over when I try to answer the phone. But no matter how fast I read, the stacks don't get any smaller. I've read 77 books so far this year and at least another 50 are threatening to fall on top of me and suffocate me in my sleep because I haven't been able to move them off my nightstand. Of course, you understand, they can't leave the nightstand until they've been read.

Some are borrowed, some I won from blogs, some are ARCs from the Book Loft. A few might have to do with my own lack of self-control in the book store. Truly, I swear the books are making whoopie or reproducing on their own. That's the only explanation. They're like those plants that self-pollinate. (Maybe if I'd paid more attention in biology I'd be able to defend this theory.)

The good news is, once I get through some of these stacks, I'm going to need to clear space for the new books that inexplicably appear. That means I'll be hosting some primo giveaways very soon. Once I finish reading them.

What does your TBR pile look like?

I'm getting through mine, though my writing is starting to suffer for it. Sure, I'm only going to read one more chapter. ;)

I'm trying to get through my pile because there are some more books coming out soon that I really want to get. And I still have a pile I want to re-read (which is why I buy books in the first place). Good idea about the giveaway. I'm looking a donating a bunch of YA books to the local children's hospital. If I can make myself part from them.

Whoa! That is a big TBR Pile!
Mine is managable. I have a long TBR list, but not as many books in a pile waiting to be read.
Happy Reading!

Oh, I can't stand desk clutter, so my TBR pile is less conspicuous, though just as large. My desk has built-in shelves on the side, so I've got about 2 dozen books there, and then I've hidden a couple books under the tissue box in the living room (there's a candle in front so it's less noticeable), and of course there are little stacks on top of the books that I HAVE read on my bookshelves. o_O

I try not to buy more than 1 book a month, but always AT LEAST one book a month. And in theory I read a lot more than that, but then there are giveaways, freebies, loaners from friends... So much to read, so little space/time!

My TBR pile is actually a bit low right now, mostly because I'm trying to read more history & writing craft--which stay in my office (or they get lost in that TBR pile). Luckily, the bookmobile comes tomorrow, so I'll be restacking/restocking the nightstand!

My TBR pile is overflowing too! I got a little shelf for all the books, but it's not holding them at all. I need to get a taller one, or learn to speed read all my stuff. =)

There are some truly awesome books in that pile - I'm a bit jealous. Nightshade, Sapphique, Scumble...too much fun! I think my pile would equal two of your three, but with fewer ARCS. :-)

Oh my goodness that's a lot of books! My TBR pile usually is around 3, so it's a lot more manageable, but I find that I keep wanting to add to it... must resist ...

My TBR stack is actually a folder of samples I've downloaded from Amazon. Generally, I'll only buy (or download) a book or two or three at a time. I'll have them read in a week or two and then I'll buy more.

Your TBR pile looks good though. Lots of books in there that I want to read.

That is SOME pile! Holy moly! Mine is much smaller and I'm thankful for that. Yours looks sort of overwhelming. ;)

Mine is getting pretty big as well. I LOVE it. I usually read faster than I can acquire so it's nice to have excess for a change.

You haven't read Hex Hall? LOVE.

Hee, hee ... I got a kick out of this! Wow ... you've got one impressively huge pile! Mine only has a few (the pile, not the list!! :-)). I remember your hubby building you a lovely bookshelf ... is that already full?

Mine is huge too! And I just added The Clockwork Three. :) I got it in the mail yesterday. Thanks again!

Oh my towering books. Mine looks a lot like this, with about 10 more on hold at the library. And I'm with you. No matter how fast I read, I can't keep up.

So jealous! Mine is made up mostly of books I'm probably never going to read, but my tbr list is out of control. I never know what to download to my nook next. I'm interested to hear what you think of We Hear the Dead.

Good luck! I highly recommend Hex Hall and Paranormalcy, because they're both fun, and pretty easy to read.

My tbr pile is a shelve that is stuffed full and even fuller now since I bought four more books in NY and some of my friends are launching there books this fall. I usually buy a couple in different genres when I go to the Surrey International Writers' Conference (which I leave for next week). So it never ends!

Wow! My TBR pile would look like that if most of them weren't for the library. Thank goodness. Once they're read, they're gone. Otherwise, I'd have them forever AND never get to reading them (I need the deadline to keep my on point).

You have some I want to read and some I've read. Incarceron was one of my favorite reads this year. The sequel isn't as good though. *sigh*

My TBR pile is in...hang on...carry the one...at least five different places in my house. They've not only multiplied, they've migrated. Be afraid, be very afraid...

I just got in "trouble" last night for my book buying habit. :( I'm glad my hubby didn't ask me how many of my books I haven't read yet! Or look in my nightstand where there's a whole other stash of books that won't fit on any bookshelves....

Good luck reading this winter. :)

Nice pile! I recognized one that I've read already--Incarceron. Good book! If you like kinda weird futuristic speculative stuff. :-)

My TBR pile is not as big as yours. I think it's maybe 20 high. Though I have three more on the way and I'm in the middle of reading 3, so yes, I have a problem! Don't even ask what's on my Amazon wishlist.

I can see some of your titles. A few of them are on my to-read list too.

Enjoy your books!

That is definitely an out of control pile. I thought mine was bad, but no. Do you know how many more books I have to add to your pile? :)

Laura Pauling said...

It looks nothing like yours but I do have my own mini stacks and some I might not read again. So like you, I might have to donate to library or give away on my blog. We'll see.

My TBR piles got a lot taller after the SCBWI Working Writers' Retreat, thanks to a book sale of $5 hardcovers -- all recently published. I feel like the man in the Twilight Zone episode who just wants a little more time to read...
