Random Thoughts

  • Yesterday my budding journalists met for the first time. The kids decided to call our publication The Ballard Journal. (Good thing too because one of the options they came up with was Ballard's Daily Prophet. I heaved a private sigh of relief when that got voted down!) We figured out our staff assignments and talked about some of the things every good news article should have. The time went way too fast.
  • My son is sick so we didn't go to the midnight show of Harry Potter. And yet, I was still awake at 2 a.m. Working. The movie would have been a more fun way to stay awake ...
  • I thought my husband was joking when he told me about The Twinkie Diet. But no, it's true. You too can lose 27 pounds by snacking on Hostess products every three hours, just like the nutrition professor who conducted this informal study. This seriously makes me want to bang my head against the wall. Here I keep trying to tell my kids that they'll be better off in the long run by avoiding sugar and making healthy choices when they eat. The Twinkie Diet blows that concept right out of the water. And that bums me out. Are there other things am I doing, thinking I'm making the "good" choice, only to find out down the road that I could have taken the easy way? The fun way? I could have been serving up Ding-Dongs instead of brussel sprouts and reaped the same benefits!
*sigh*
  • I'm looking forward to the rain this weekend. What are you looking forward to?

This whole next week should be fun. My sister is coming into town for a few days and I need some much needed perspective on my writing.

Trust me, your body will be a lot happier not eating Twinkies all the time.

Wish there was a chocolate diet, though. At least chocolate has positive health benefits.

Hope your son is feeling better soon. We're going to wait a few weeks before we go see the movie.

Rain? We have snow. Lots of it. I'm looking forward to summer!!!!!

Um, just because you can lose weight from it doesn't mean it's healthy. And really, that's a pretty good lesson about trying to take shortcuts in life: yeah, it might be more fun, but it's also probably going to screw you/kill you in the long-run.

(Also, Andy cooks brussel sprouts in a way that makes them SOOOO tasty! I'd take those over a Twinkie any day.)

Hope your son feels better soon!

I have sickies at my house, too. I'm not sure when we'll get to go see HP.

The twinkie diet sounds awful. I can hardly eat those things. Don't get me wrong. I love sweets and treats, but there is just something inedible to me about a twinkie.

I'm so sorry about your sick son and having to miss the movie. =( I hope he feels better soon.

A Twinkies diet? Ew. A chocolate diet on the other hand.... =)

1) I will refer to your kids as the Ballardeers and will require routine updates on their progress (because it's such an awesome project!).
2) I'm going to see Harry Potter today, but I've been working past midnight the last two nights and am worried that all of the yelling will lull me into a pleasant nap.
3) So does that mean you would judge me for eating a giant brownie for breakfast? Which, you can't see me, so you can't prove I am (hint: I am).

and, I remember when everyone was all hot on the Atkins diet (remember...eat bacon all day and lose weight)

but then the Atkins guy died

of a heart attack.

yeah, that diet was a brilliant plan.

Hmmm ... the twinkie diet ...

I think I've only ever eaten one twinkie in my life. It's not that I don't like them, it's just I've never seen them around -- especially here in Korea.

Twinkie diet sounds kind of gross though... Trust, in the LONG RUN, your way is probably better.

Hope your son feels better soon & that you both get to see HP soon too! :)

Oh, man The Twinkie Diet is one way to get sick of sweets fast and then turn to good foods because you can't take it anymore!
Hope your son feels better! My daughter had strep and I caught something that might be strep so am on antibiotics for the first time in years!
Have a great weekend, Sherrie! I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving!

I was up until the wee hours working too! We should've been chatting to keep ourselves motivated and to console each other on the whole not seeing HP7 thing. Hope the kidlet's better.

And I would totally have voted for the Ballard Daily Prophet. I mean, how could you not??

As for the Twinkie Diet, I think you're safe. You tell your kids about being healthy with healthy choices. Just because dude lost 27 lbs on Twinkies, does NOT mean he's healthy. Just saying.

I'm sorry about your son. I haven't seen the movie either, but I hope to this weekend.

Twinkie Diet. It's all about calories, so that's why it works. It's not a diet. Do that long enough and you'll get sick, even losing your hair. Vitamins? Minerals? Fiber? Not there. And how can you stay filled up without fiber and protein?

Twinkies will give you scurvy - that's my slogan.

Hope your boy feels better!

Twinkie diet? Eeeew! Hostess products have a very unnatural shelf-life, right? I did kind of love Twinkies and ding-dongs though. Mmmm. Getting hungry.
