Beaches, Snow and a Big Hello

I'm proud to say that I'm already doing a good job of sticking to my one resolution for this year. Hubby and I went to the beach today while the kids were in school, strolled along the breakwater, had fish and chips in a dive cafe. It was a lovely day.

I feel kind of guilty even talking about this since the Winter Warlock has spread his icy fingers over the rest of the country! If you're freezing your a$$ off somewhere east of here, just imagine yourself in the picture above. I don't mind sharing our sun. And know that my kids are praying for what you've got. This morning when I told them the temp in Atlanta, they asked if we could move!

Today is the start of the comment challenge. If you've been lurking around this blog, it's time to reveal yourself and say hello. I promise to be nice!

And now, the moment you've been waiting for, the winner of The Writing and Critique Group Survival Guide is:

Congratulations Sarah Frances! Email me at solvangsherrie at gmail dot com and let me know if you'd like the digital copy or the printed copy.

And for those of you that didn't win, PJ Hoover also interviewed Becky and has a copy up for grabs. Head on over there for another chance to win.

Here's wishing you all a great (warm!) weekend!

Oh, how nice. Makes me want to go diving!

Oh I'm so jealous :) There is so much snow where I am. Enjoy the warmth and the sunshine!

Would run outside and scream in jealousy, except that would involve exposing myself to single digit temperatures. :)

Even if the "lurking community" doesn't always leave comments we do perform the useful task of upping your visitor count! Enjoy your beach days...

Hello! I comment once in awhile. Your beach picture makes me jealous... but not too much, because I'm taking a trip to Florida soon! :)

Is anyone interested in helping critique each other's work online? I'm in two in-person groups, but neither has met yet this year due to inclement Michigan weather. I've started posting short selections of my WIP on my blog. I'd be happy to read other people's work, too, if anyone is comfortable with posting material.

Sounds like you and hubby had a wonderful time. My hubby and I would love an afternoon like that. My kids are enjoying the winter, though! :-)

Congratulations Sarah Frances!

Even though I love the beach and a part of me is jealous, I have come to love New England winters. First, I've finally got the right gear to keep me warm. Two, I write more. I read by the fire. In summer, we are crazy busy enjoying the sun and outside activities. Now I've got a built in weather excuse to write. But I wouldn't mind a run along the beach every once in a while. Enoy it!

Well, you know how I feel about snow. Ugh. I would give my right arm to go to the beach and eat fish and chips with my hubby. Oh my goodness. One day... Why do I live here? WHY?

So cool that you're sticking to your resolution! Keep at it. :D

Corey: Diving sounds wonderful. I haven't been in years!

Julie: To be perfectly honest, we wouldn't mind a little snow. Warm temps in January just seem wrong!

Karen: Stay inside and think warm thoughts :)

Maggie: I am glad you're visiting. Stay warm, er, safe :D

Genie: Have fun in Florida, and good luck finding critiquers.

Shannon: My kids are SO jealous that they don't live where it snows!

Laura: Winter in New England sounds wonderful! I remember skiing in Vermont as a kid and thinking it was one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Glam: We'll just have to switch homes for a month so you guys can enjoy the beach and my family can enjoy the snow!

I would love to be sitting on a beach right now enjoying the warmth and sunshine. However, I am sitting in my house trying to stay warm and avoiding going out into all that very cold snow.

Yeah. It's freakin' cold here. I'm wearing a scarf all the time these days. Not normal for NC.

Ah...each place has it's own beauty.

I gave up the California beaches when we moved here, but the jagged rockies out my kitchen window (now beautifully snow capped) are lovely as well :D

That sounds like an absolutely lovely day. It's inside recess day at school again -- it's only 8 degrees F here.

We're one of those buried under snow, but I don't mind. I actually like snow. I get just as excited as the kids. :) The single digit temperatures, however, I could do without. And it's going to get down to some unspeakable temps tonight. *sigh*

Ah well. I will just go play in the snow with my kids today, and then we'll drink hot chocolate all weekend. :)

Thanks for the sympathy for all of us freezing to death. The high here is supposed to be 0 today with a low of -16. That beach is looking pretty darn good. Tell your kids that I'll trade places with them. :)

I am, indeed, freezing my a$$ off in Cleveland. But it has allowed me to fully enjoy Bloggiesta and stumble across your blog! I'm jealous of your beach & can't wait until mine isn't covered in snow!

I'm so jealous! I think I have frostbite...I shoveled snow from around the mailbox, so the mail lady could reach it.

Megan: Stay warm!

Lois: I love North Carolina, even if it is cold right now :)

Tess: I'm always blown away by the Rockies. They are incredibly beautiful.

Elana: My kids love inside recess. I guess since it's a change from the norm. And I'd say 8 degrees is definitely a change from the norm!

Tabitha: Hot chocolate sounds nice!

Susan: A high of zero is just wrong. Sorry!

Meg: Glad you stumbled in from the cold. Nice to meet you!

Sharon: I'm curious -- if people can't go to work or school, does the mail really still show up??!!

Tricia: I try to make the best of whatever I've got :)

SF: Yay! Enjoy!

Kelly: I've left 17 comments today. How's that for a jump start? :D

LiLa: I do enjoy!

Suzette: I do feel pretty lucky when I watch the morning news. It's like the whole rest of the country is being slammed!

Lori: It's a pleasant one to follow :)

You *almost* make me want to live in that crazy, over-populated place you call home. But then I remember my in-laws are there. Oh, I'm kidding. Sort of.

I think you have the coolest resolution I've seen. So glad you're sticking to it!

Love that resolution, Sherrie! And glad to be speaking up instead of lurking (love the comment challenge).
